Chris Brown’s Baby News and Michelle Obama’s Heart Felt Initiative

While the world fawns over Chris Brown’s baby and Karrueche Tran’s 199th declaration of finally being done with him, Michelle Obama launched a serious initiative that touches nearly every family in America.

Yet another example of how negative news distracts from pertinent matters, R &B/Pop artist, Chris Brown, is trending for fathering a child with a 31-year-old model. As I scratch my head to figure out why his parental status is the first thing I see on Yahoo! News, FLOTUS tweets a new world-wide launch that strikes my heart.

Michelle Obama launched a campaign called Change Direction. Its purpose is to shed some light and help for those suffering from mental illness.

According to, nearly 1 in 5 Americans have a diagnosable mental illness. Those statistics are outrageous but are believable. Especially in the Black community, most of us know at least one person who is trapped in a mental prison yet goes ignored.

There are 5 signs that indicate a person may have a mental illness: personality change, agitation, withdrawal, poor self-care, and hopelessness. For more details about the 5 signs go to

My two cents:

I am happy that the First Lady has launched this campaign so that we can place a spotlight on America’s forgotten. We have a habit of casting the mentally ill aside and branding them as crazy but what they really need is compassion and hope.

So the next time you pass a homeless person muttering to himself or herself, it wouldn’t hurt to at least say hello and buy them a burger. Or the next time you talk to your crazy Uncle who the rest of the family rolls their eyes at-while mentioning how those “demons” need to be cast out, offer to give him a ride to a free mental health counselor who can give him a proper diagnosis.

Oh and I nominate Karrueche and Chris Brown for the get off social media with your nonsense award!
